Services Explained…..
-
This is the most common type of longarming I do. I have over 4500 digital pattern designs to choose from in all types of fill. From basic meander to dense fill and everything in between, you’re sure to find that perfect design that brings your quilt to life. E2E pricing varies from $.0175 - $.035 a sq. in. depending on density. Most of the patterns I do fall into the $.0275 sq. in. category. (Minimum fee $50.00) .
All-inclusive per square inch pricing. No hidden fees for things longarmers commonly charge for such as thread, pressing, prep, trimming, etc. My per sq in pricing includes everything needed for your quilt to have its best, most beautiful outcome.
-
Custom quilting varies in cost. This service is done by quote per project. Contact me via text or email to inquire on price and availability.
Because I only have one longarm machine this service is not always available. The majority of my work is e2e and I take in custom jobs as time allows. It will be a couple years until I have a second machine, and at that time this will be a service we offer on a continuous basis.
-
Batting can be purchased at my bolt rate of $14 a yard. This is 90” wide batting and usually cut on the width of your quilt (plus the 4” extra needed for each side). It’s much more affordable buying your batting like this vs. retail in the bag, and nearly every one of my clients have me cut their batting for them and purchase it this way.
I stock Quilters Dream Cotton Select on the longarm. They do not use scrim, resin or glue – just 100% pure natural cotton. It's a premium batting that is made in the USA. They use the softest, silkiest high-quality fibers so that your quilt will resist shrinkage and stay soft yet strong and wonderfully drapeable. This premium batting will provide warmth, drape, volume, definition and support to your quilt through generations.
Also in the quilt shop I have Wool, Bamboo, Black and King batting available for those special projects which require a unique type.
Product Note: This last summer Sierra Quilt Co converted from Warm Company to Quilters Dream batting. Quilters Dream Batting is a premium product, the best quality available on the current market. Although it costs more, I will not be raising my prices. I am going to absorb this increase for my clients. Thank you for your patience while we make changes to always provide you with the highest quality products available on the market.
-
I use multiple threads depending on what look you are going for. My main thread choice is Glide. Glide thread is by FilTec and made in America. It is a 40 wt. poly thread made with Advanced Trilobal Technology that allows it to maintain consistant tension throughout each spool giving high quality results. It has a nice sheen to it. Most clients prefer this thread.
I also use Omni thread. It’s a 40 wt. poly thread with no sheen so it’s more suitable for vintage style quilting. It’s made by Superior Threads and also made in America.
I piece with Aurifil 50wt. made in Milan Italy and 80wt filtec in bobbin. I find this gives less bulk in the seams and my blocks lay flatter.
Poly vs. Cotton thread. Many people believe you need to use cotton thread vs. poly or poly blend so shrinkage is the same. This is not the case anymore. All cotton threads are mercerized now….meaning they are treated with a solution to improve properties such as fiber strength, shrinkage resistance, luster and dye affinity. Combined with most high end cotton textiles being resistant to shrinkage now, it is no longer a thing to use only cotton threads with cotton quilts during the quilting process. Poly threads are far superior in strength, they quilt cleaner and give a consistantly beautiful stitch that you just don’t always get with cotton threads. Most longarmers use poly…it quilts better, quilts cleaner with less lint and provides stitch strength you just can’t obtain with cotton threads.
I have hundreds of color options to choose from. During the design meeting we work together to pick the perfect color and type of thread for your project.
-
I will make your backing for you. I am very good at making the best use of the fabric as to minimize waste while still creating a unique design element for your backing. I charge a flat rate of $25 (up to a 3 pieced backing) plus cost of the fabric. (If you buy fabric from me, I generally comp the cost to make your backing). I have over 600 premium quality fabrics to choose from in our Quilt Shop if you need to purchase your backing fabric. I can also use fabric you send. Our shop specializes in blenders & backgrounds…great for backings! Pick from a host of high-end fabric brands like Tilda, Riley Blake, Dear Stella, Tula Pink and more. Just send me your top and I will send you back a finished quilt ready for you to bind!
*All longarm clients are given a VIP promo code that is good sitewide in our quilt shop giving you 10% off all fabric & notions every day.
-
I can serge your quilt edges to lock those stitches in AND make it easier for you to bind. If you’ve never added binding to a quilt with serged edges you are in for a treat! It’s so EASY. Not only does serging lock in those longarmed stitches it creates a more durable and long lasting edge. Per linear inch pricing at .08 cents. (Average for large throw runs $20. Average for baby quilt $12.)
-
Finishing work can be done.
Standard binding is $.25 cents a linear inch and this includes complimentary fabric of your choice. I have over 600 fabrics to choose from in the shop. Pick from a host of premium brands like Tilda, Riley Blake, Dear Stella, Tula Pink and more.
I make your binding, machine sew it double thickness to the back then wrap to the front and it is then machine sewn down.
Heirloom Prep is $.17 cents a linear inch. This includes complimentary fabric of your choice from our shop or provided by you, making your binding and machine sewing to the front of the quilt making it ready for you to hand sew heirloom style to the back.
Heirloom Binding can also be done. This is $.75 a linear inch. It includes complimentary fabric of your choice from our shop or provided by you, making the binding, machine sewn to the front of the quilt then hand-stitched to the back with a hidden stitch. This service is time permissive and not always available.
All binding/binding prep done with mitered corners and bias joining of ends so where they come together is hidden and unseen.

“110% made the difference in my work - from a nice quilt to a champion quilt. SUPER easy to work with, SUPER communicative and listened very carefully. Every single idea she had could’ve come from my own head. She saw my vision for each of my quilt fronts and turned them into something I proudly entered into a MASSIVE fair and won 3 different awards for! If you need clear, open communication, this is your longarmer.”

Remi Dawkins - Etsy Review
“Jenn was a true partner in my creation! Communicated with me every step of the way to make sure I loved everything, showing me the progress via studio videos, even taking the quilt with her to shop for the perfect binding material and sending photos while she was there to help me choose. The finished quilt arrived professionally and REALLY beautifully packaged. Truly unexpected, top-notch service!”

Marilyn Hartley - Petaluma, CA - Google Review
“What an amazing experience working with Jenn! I found her after my previous longarmer retired. Jenn’s quilting is perfection, but even better - her communication skills. She worked with me every step of the way, willing to talk about several batting options, making mock ups to scale of several patterns I was considering. She has now quilted two quilts for me, and two more are heading her way soon. If you don’t live near Jenn don’t worry! We shipped my quilts back and forth with no issues. They were carefully packed and quickly shipped at a very reasonable rate. Words can’t describe how much fun it has been working with Jenn. This is only the beginning!”

“The quality and care put into the finishing of my quilts was amazing. I was sent pictures and kept in the loop through the process. She completed binding on both and helped me pick out a complementary fabric. I’m lucky to live close by so I don’t have to ship, but I would be more than happy to ship my quilts out to her knowing they will be finished so exquisitely. She gave them to me wrapped up so cute and in the most adorable bag. Don’t hesitate to trust Jennifer with your quilts. She is a pro.”

“CONTINUING EDUCATION is so important to me. I take at least one advanced course a year to improve my craft and stay current on modern trend. In 2022 I attended Gammill’s Summit Retreat in Snowbird, Utah; a five day intensive education event focusing on advanced and custom quilting. In spring 2023 I completed Quilting with Confidence, a multi course education event focusing on basic to advanced techniques including pattern design. I maintain continuous annual enrollment in the Academy advancing my knowledge of the Gammill Statler machine and it’s advanced Statler Ascend software & robotics. I am also a member of Gammill’s Accelerate Program which provides me monthly hour-long one-on-one sessions with a certified educator; continuously refining my custom quilting into the next level and collaborating with other professionals in my arena to always bring you the latest in machine quilting!”

“Using the absolute FINEST INGREDIENTS is what Sierra Quilt Co. is all about. I believe your project deserves the best products. We carry and use the finest threads, premium cottons, and highest quality battings available on the market. We converted to Quilter’s Dream full batting line because it’s the best. When we did, I absorbed the cost increase because my clients deserve the highest quality ingredients. Cutting corners for the sake of profit is NOT something I will ever believe in. I want our brand centered and defined by quality and value. I love every quilt I take in and work on it as if it is my own.”

Commonly Asked Questions…
-
Does your quilt backing and batting really need to be 4” bigger on all four sides than the quilt top?
The answer is YES. For your quilt to hook onto the longarm I need 4” all the way around (so 8” wider, 8” longer). This gives a header and footer to hook to the leaders that roll your quilt back and forth. On the sides it allows for stabilization clips to be secured.
-
What do you mean when you say there are no hidden fees?
No hidden fees means the per square inch price is what you pay. I do not add extra charges for thread fee, ironing, prepping your quilt, bobbin charges, trimming threads, trimming after it comes off, etc. These are all things some longarmers add extra fees for. The price you see is the price you pay and I include everything I need to do my job, and for your quilt to have its best most beautiful outcome. This also allows me to give you an upfront estimate that nearly always matches your final invoice!
-
What is your turn around time?
This varies depending on how many quilts I have in my queue. I book for 5 days a week but often work 7 days a week to keep my turn times low. We also run Statler Ascend robotics which are the fastest machine quilting robotics in the industry. The Statler Ascend is known for its precision stitching and speed.
Currently my turn around time is about 2-3 weeks. This is updated frequently as times change, although I am pretty good at maintaining a maximum of a 3 week turn time year-round. Even during the busy time of year…the holidays, I just work more and do pretty good at keeping those turn times low for my clients.
-
On average, how many quilts do you longarm in a month?
I machine quilt approximately 25-30 quilts a month. 300+ quilts per year.
-
Do you ship throughout the U.S.?
YES. In fact the majority of my longarm clients are not local, they are throughout the nation. I ship insured with Priority Mail and have never had a postal issue. I do have several local clients as well, but probably 80% of my work is done over messaging and the phone, then gets shipped out of state. I charge only what the shipping costs me using my discounted commercial postage. (Average quilt runs approx. $6-$9). With my affordable all-inclusive pricing it's really not too terribly expensive with shipping. You'd be surprised, most clients find they're still saving money and getting a premium service.
-
Do I sandwich my quilt before I give it to you?
NO. Your quilt top, batting and backing need to all be separate for me to hook onto the longarm. In fact, because I sell batting from the bolt roll making it cheaper and easier for you, almost all my clients just send me their tops and backing and have me cut their batting for them.
-
What is the maximum size you can quilt on your frame?
Currently I have a 10’ frame and my max width for a quilt top is 94”, backing 102” (your backing has to be 4” bigger than your quilt top on each side to hook to the longarm). So this means I CAN DO UP TO A “KING SHORT”.
A King mattress is 74” × 80”. I am NOT LIMITED ON LENGTH, just width. So at 94”, your quilt can come to the top of the mattress and have a 14” drape off the bottom of bed. You just can’t wrap the pillows in the quilt like as a hotel would. What I do with King shorts is quilt them as long as you want (this will be your side drape) in a non directional stitching pattern….then you put it on the bed sideways where your width is the length, and your length is your width.
EXAMPLE: If you wanted your quilt to come to the top of your mattress and have a 14” drop off the bottom and a 14” drop off each side of the bed, you would want to make your quilt 94” x 102”. I could quilt this size.
Because I make King Shorts I stock Quilter’s Dream King size batting on the bolt in 100% Cotton Select Loft. Talk to me about your king. If I cannot do it, I have options for you.
Note: we are building a studio that will be 600 sq ft, at which time I will get a 14’ frame and no longer be limited by any size restrictions. This is just temporary.
-
Is it worth it to get my quilt edges serged?
It is. If you have never done binding on a quilt with a serged edge you are absolutely in for a treat! It makes it so easy! The serging compresses the edge and makes a nice finished area for you to wrap your binding around. Not only does serging your edges make binding much easier, it adds durability and strength to your quilt. Serging locks in the edges of those longarmed stitches, especially important if you cannot get to binding right away (which also locks your edging). I serge a lot of my personal quilts. Serging done with a Bernina L850 Serger.
-
Do you offer discounts or promo codes?
When you receive your finished quilt, you'll get a package with a small thank you gift and a thank you card with your VIP Promo Code that gives you a discount sitewide in the Quilt shop.
You'll also receive Referral Cards. For every longarm client you refer you both will get $25 off your next longarm service once they book. This is a great way to save some money...and it helps me while I grow my clientele base.
-
All new for 2025! With every quilt you have done, you’ll receive a free ticket. The other part of that ticket goes into the ticket jar. For every quilt you have done, you continue to receive free tickets for each one so the more quilts you have longarmed, the more chances you have to win!
December 1st, I will do a FB live drawing and have at least FIVE winners!!!! (You don’t need to be on facebook or present to win, I will contact you. It’s just for fun). Winning tickets will win things like free quilting, 4-yard backing, Tilda FQ bundles…etc. Ya know, quilty items!
Join the fun and get your quilts in this year! I can’t wait to see who wins!
-
What do you charge for Shipping & Handling? How will my quilt be returned to me?
I do not charge for handling, just what the shipping costs. We have discounted commercial shipping and the fees are very affordable. I ship with the insurance amount you request. Average costs for shipping with insurance are as follows:
Baby Quilt $6
Throw $7
Queen $9
Your quilt will be wrapped with a bow and a professionally printed 2 x 3 hang tag is tied on that has printed washing instructions on it (see photos above). Your quilt is then placed in a protective cellophane bag and shipped either in a double poly mailer or a box. We generally ship USPS Priority Mail. Other carriers used are Fed Ex and UPS.
We are located in California, so depending on your state arrival times vary. You will be provided tracking so you can watch it’s progress as your quilt makes it’s journey to your location.
